Far Niente Winery - Far Niente is located in a historic stone winery just south of Oakville. It is one of California's oldest wineries. The facility been transformed into a facility that combines the winemaking techniques of both the old and new worlds. Far Niente is dedicated to the production of quality Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. Far Niente was founded in 1885 by John Benson, a forty-niner of the California gold rush and uncle of the famous American impressionist painter, Winslow Homer. Benson hired architect Hamden McIntyre, creator of the former Christian Brothers winery now the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone to design the building. | |

Castello DI Fonterutoli Winery - Fonterutoli is situated on hills facing of the Elsa River valley, three miles to the south of Castellina in Chianti (Siena), Italy. Fonterutoli, owned by the Mazzei family since 1435, has been a medieval Tuscan village, a castle, a Chianti Classico and a "Vini da Tavola" range. The vineyards were started by one ancestor named Filippo Mazzei who was a signer of the Declaration of Independence. As a friend of Thomas Jefferson, he planted experimental vineyards on his Virginia estate. His namesake currently runs the estate, which experiments with clonal selection and development. | |

Dow's Port Silva & Cosens - Located at Apartado 14 Vila Nova de Gaia , Portugal. Dow's Port, owned by Silva & Cosens, was founded by a Portuguese merchant who emigrated to England in 1798. Silva & Cosens merged with Dow's in 1877. Today, Silva & Cosens, which ships their Port under the name "Dow's," is owned and managed by the Symington family. Dow's is one of the greatest of all Port Houses. In 1798 a Portuguese merchant called Bruno da Silva arrived in London to see what business he might be able to open up with his native city of Oporto, and so started the wine-importing concern which fifty years later became Silva & Cosens when Mr Bruno's son John Silva joined with William Cosens. | |

Vina Santa Rita Winery - Located in Santiago, Chile; Vina Santa Rita was founded in 1880. Since that time they have introduced French vine stocks and worked with European enologists to help produce their wines using modern winemaking techniques. The history of wine in Chile began around 1550 somewhat after its discovery and conquest. Writers of the period spoke of the first planting of vines for the wine production immediately after Pedro de Valdivia took possession of the Chilean territory in the name of the King of Spain. As a result, Chile was more than a century ahead of South Africa in establishing its first vineyards, and became the first wine producer in the new world, some 200 years before California. | |

Penfolds Winery - Located in Tanunda Road, Nuriootpa, Australia. Founded in 1844 by Dr. Rawson Penfold. Domaine Collet, The Chablis Vineyard - Located in Burgundy, France. The Collet Vineyards have chalky soils full of limestone, hot summers and cool winters which combine to grow Chablis grapes that produce dry, golden colored wines. Located near the city of Auxerre ( the capital of the Yonne department ), the vineyards of Chablis are some of the oldest vineyards in France. Chablis is situated midway between Paris and Dijon. The boundaries of Chablis, Appellation d'Origine Controllee, fall within a unique geological zone from the Jurassic period, known as the "Kimmeridgien" period, which gives Chablis its distinctly characteristic chalky, limestone soil. | |

Palazzo Avignonesi Winery - Located in Montepulciano (Siena) , Italy. Palazzo Avignonesi was built in the late 16th century and the cellars still remain today. In 1974 the winery was taken over by the Falvo brothers completely renovated it. Today, Avignonesi consists of 432 acres and three wine-producing estates: Le Cappezzine, I Pogetti and La Selva. Varietals produced by the estate include Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Pinot Noir. It is not known exactly when Avignonesi's cellars were built, but they are doubtless among the most ancient in Italy. Palazzo Avignonesi was built according to a design by Jacopo Barozzi in the second half of the XVI century and it has always been the cellars' seat. | |
