| An up-and-coming member of a new breed of intellectual chefs, Reed Hearon is an honors graduate in philosophy and mathematics from the University of Texas. With Jimmy Schmidt and Michael McCarty, he opened Denver's Rattlesnake Club. Within just two weeks of its opening, this ambitious project was described by writer Colman Andrews as one of the two best restaurants in the nation. Great Chefs covered the restaurant and its chefs in Great Chefs of the West. After a year, Hearon joined Mark Miller for two years, helping launch the acclaimed Coyote Cafe in Santa Fe as chef. Again, Great Chefs covered the restaurant. During his time at Coyote Cafe, he worked with Miller on his Coyote Cafe Cookbook. Hearon then moved to |

San Francisco
to work as chef for the Corona Bar and Grill.
In January 1993, Hearon and partner Louise Clement launched the hugely successful Restaurant LuLu in San Francisco's Yerba Buena Arts District. LuLu's Riviera cuisine, dynamic interior and lively crowds have earned it rave reviews as well as a loyal local following. In 1993 Hearon launched his first book, Salsa: Musica for Your Mouth, which quickly sold out and went into a second printing. Next came Cafe Marimba in San Francisco's Marina District, part of the renovation and growth in the district after the 1989 quake. At Marimba Hearon returned to his first love, authentic Mexican cuisine. The menu features dishes from Oaxaca and the Yucatan. Then it was LuLu Bis, with LuLu Cafe and Oyster Bar to follow. And another LuLu Bis in Burlingame, south of San Francisco. |
