Traditional Margarita
A frozen margarita, is made using crushed ice, while the traditional style margarita can be made by straining ice with a shaker
2
lime wedges, plus some for rim of the glass
Traditional Margarita
*
salt
2
oz Tequila
1
oz Triple Sec
2
oz fresh squeezed lime juice
1
cup of ice cubes

Rub the rim of a chilled margarita or martini glass with one of the lime wedges. Dip rim of the glass into salt. Place tequila, lime juice, Triple Sec or Cointreau and the ice cubes in a shaker. Shake 20-30 times then strain into cocktail glass. Garnish with a lime wedge.

Variations

Lower Alcohol Margarita: Make margarita as described above but reduce the Tequila and Triple sec used by half. Replace the 1 1/2 ounces of liquid with lime cordial. The lime cordial will replace the liquid lost by reducing the amount of alcohol and will also help sweeten the drink, something the extra amount of triple Sec in the traditional margarita would have done.

Virgin Margarita: Make margarita as described in the traditional margarita recipe but make the drink with 2 oz lime juice; 2 oz orange juice; and 2 oz lime cordial.

On The Rocks: Combine ingredients as for a traditional, lower alcohol or virgin margarita with the ice in a shaker and strain into a salt rimmed margarita or martini glass filled with ice. Garnish with lime wedge or slice.
